Inspiration Friday No.29~ Halloween Party Decorating

Of course I have waited until the last minute to decorate for our 3rd Annual Halloween Party.
I have been busy for the last two days putting up spider webs and spooky stuff.
I took this pic with Instagram today.

Last year I made a taco dip that looked like this.  I often make this dip for parties
but it was especially fun making a spider web out of sour cream.

I love this "corn on the cob" idea made from a banana and candy corn.
It's a great craft for the kiddos.

Surgical gloves.
Just creepy enough to be the perfect gift bags.

Pretty and creepy!!

My week & a new website

I could really fall asleep right here on this keyboard that I am typing on.
It's been a busy week of my mom coming in town, last minute makeup jobs, and school functions...
every night this week has been busy and it's not slowing down.  Every year we have a Halloween party and every year I have a wedding on that day.  This year is no different and I am having a hard time getting everything done.  It always gets done but I am feeling frazzled.  My to-do list for tomorrow feels a mile long!

Today was crazy hair day at my daughter's school.  She is usually a little shy but today she couldn't wait to wear her wig to school!  She was so excited to show all of her friends.

This is part of my costume for the party, I hope they aren't so heavy that I have sleepy eyes!!

Another reason that I am so exhausted this week is I have been working on transferring all the pictures from my old website to my new website.  There was one very early 4:30 a.m. morning that I started and it lasted ALL DAY LONG.  But the new site finally launched today and I couldn't be more excited how it has turned out.  It was a long process but I am so happy that it done!  You can see the new site at www.makeupbykimporter.com.

So the rest of the week and weekend look like cleaning, decorating, grocery store, soccer practice, soccer game, wedding in Virginia Beach, and finally Halloween Party.  When it gets like this I wish for just a few more days but I know it always works out!

Changes...

There has been a shift in my household.  It's not a huge change but enough that you kind of go "awww, my kids are growing up".  No one wants to take a bath anymore!  It started about 6 months ago, my 7 year old daughter and 4 year old son have been taking baths together, well for their whole lives.  Then all the sudden my daughter started wanting her privacy and well, it is just easier to give them a shower.

My daughter as an infant...if I posted one of her now.  She would KILL me!!!

My son shaving in the shower, his favorite thing!

I'm a little sad that there won't be any more floating boats or mermaid Barbies.
But I know it's just a part of them growing up and getting more independent.

My children and I at the park this summer.
I kind of wish I could bottle them up and forever remember this time in their lives...

Keeping it Real...

I started this blog so that I could document my home design projects that my husband and I were doing around our new home.  After being in our home for over 2 years now, we have halted most of the projects due to time and money constraints.  We have one child in a private preschool and both of my children do sports.  They need clothes, shoes, you know... kids are expensive.

So I've struggled with what I want this blog to be. At one time I even thought that I didn't need this blog anymore because I have another one for my business, but I wanted to keep this blog because it is more personal.  I just wasn't sure how much of my personal life that I wanted to show.  In the end, I would love to have an online diary of my life and my children, and by doing this I am letting more of my personal life show through than I initially intended.  I have come to terms with the fact that I can not have a personal, life based blog without actually talking about my life.

So expect more posts, as simple as they may be.  Sometimes my life is really exciting but then it can be really boring and mundane as well... getting the kids to school, cleaning, cooking dinner.  This is not really the exciting stuff but I'm hoping that by sharing more of the little things, that I will start a whole new level of self-expression that I have been holding back.  It may not always be pretty, but at least it's real!

Some of this new thinking is from this online class that my sister and I are taking.  It is through www.Skillshare.com and this particular class is taught by Susanne Conrad, called "Author Your Life with Goal-Setting".  You are required to complete a 10 year vision and then have written goals that will help you accomplish your vision.  I will have a set of 1 year, 5 year, and 10 year goals.  The class has helped me realize what my goals and visions are and to think outside of the box inside my mind.  To let myself think bigger than where I am right now.  It has been very enlightening and even fun to think about what my future could hold.  Currently I am working backwards from my vision to compile my list of goals and I plan to post them here.  To put them out into the universe but to also be held accountable to them.  I will break my goals down into 3 categories:

"Family"- marriage relationship, children, and friendships
"Personal"- health and exercise
"Business"- my career and growth as a makeup artist and business owner

This will be the first time in my life that I have allowed myself to think outside of my proverbial box and actually allow myself to think of the possibilities that may be ahead for me and my family.  It's exciting and scary!

  There is another blogger that I am reminded of when I talk about my goals and putting them out there for everyone to read, Miss Mustard Seed.  I don't get a lot of time to peruse around the blog world but I have read a few of her posts that were totally inspiring.  She has been on the Nate Berkus Show, developed her own line of milk paint, and now has a book.  All the while she says she can't believe these things are happening.  She has written down her goals, hopes and dreams and look they are all coming true!  It is pretty amazing!!  I just recently checked out her blog and saw this blog post that just reminded me just how awesome her journey has been! {http://missmustardseed.com/2012/10/from-blogger-to-author/}

I encourage everyone to take a vision and goal journey because you have no idea where you could go from here!!

Inspiration Friday No.27~ Vision & Goal Setting Inspiration

My sister has me doing this class with her called "Author Your Life with Goal-Setting"
through Skillshare. The teacher is the inspiring Susanne Conrad,
who is the Director of Possibility at lululemon athletica,
the company my sister works for. We are suppose to create a vision for our life in
10 years and from that come up with 1 and 5 year goals that will help us reach that vision.
My 10 year vision is me, my husband, and our two children playing a board game in a
cozy but large room with vaulted ceilings and a large stone fireplace.
These rooms are inline with how I envision the room and what
I would love for my home to look like.

I was a little skeptical about the class because it is a hybrid, online class, but
they have given us a lot of resources and references to help us create our vision and goals.
I am learning a lot about myself and what I really want.  Because isn't that the
hardest question, asking yourself what you really want in life?
Not what your husband or partner wants, or what your kids want, but what YOU
really want from your life.  I'm having a lot of fun with it and hopefully it will help me
with building my business (www.makeupbykimporter.com) and personally.

So what is your 10 year vision?  Happy Friday!!!

Garage Sale Finds

I woke up Saturday morning to a garage sale happening right across the street.
I thought about getting dressed and going over, but then decided it was too much work.
Then, my sister-in-law called and said she saw an ornate mirror similar to what
I was looking for my daughter's room (you can find the post here: girl's room
at a garage sale by her house.  Well that got me moving!!
I did end up walking across the street and hitting a few other garage sales,
and I'm so glad I did!

This $5 mirror will look great with some spray paint!

A $10 table I found right across the street from my house.
The seller said it was Amish hand made.
It's in good condition but just rustic enough!

The $4 glass bottles that I found at a garage sale while driving around our neighborhood
The seller said her mother would buy them when she traveled and would display them in her windows.

The table does have some water looking damage on the top but I think some light sanding will take it out.

Not bad for $19 and a Saturday morning!!

Neptune Festival

On Sunday, my friend Kim and I went to 39th Annual Virginia Beach Neptune Festival.
Lots of sand sculptures, art and food!  We did a little bit of shopping, eating, and drinking!
...and lots and lots of dog petting.  The cutest puppy bulldog named Sugar had my heart melting!

I thought this would make a great holiday gift.
There is so many options to seasonal flowers and herbs.

Lot's of fun jewelry!

Some beachy art!

You can see more art like it here at http://www.mytownart.com/.
