Inspiration Friday No.18 ~ Makeup Studio Design

As many of you know, I have been working on putting together a makeup studio in my home.  I compiled some of my favorites images.

Every girl needs a little glamour.

Pale pinks are a pretty background.  Pink is a beautiful color to make a woman's skin glow.

Pink and glamour together.  Now that's hot!

Every makeup studio needs good lighting.  Thankfully my room gets a lot of natural light so I can avoid the dreaded vanity lighting and just add in a chandelier and table lamps.

Pretty makeup displayed in a way that leads to lots of experimenting and playing around!  The attraction that women feel to makeup is very tactile.  We like to touch and try things on.

Since this room also doubles as a guest room, I would love to replace our full size bed with a daybed.  Our most frequent guest is my mom and at 4'11'' she will have no problem sleeping comfortably.

I'm thinkin' pink..Hot Pink!!!

The hardest part of any interior design project for me is putting all of the pieces together.  When I do a room, I try very hard not to be too matchy-matchy but to have a cohesive plan in mind of how all the pieces go together.  So when I had this plan to create a makeup studio in my home to help launch and promote my new makeup line, I went through this book by House Beautiful to find some inspiration.

...oh yeah, did I tell you I am starting a makeup line?  It's been in the works for awhile but I have to think things through 'til I give myself gray hairs.  But when I do something I do it wholeheartedly.  So now that it is actually happening, I am beyond excited.  I plan to take this little wedding makeup business to a whole new level!!

This is the logo I had made like 8 years ago and never really used it except on business cards.  Now I plan to have it on foundations bottles and powder... and eye shadows!!!

So back to paint... the color that I picked is called Razzle Dazzle by Benjamin Moore.  Here it is below featured in House Beautiful magazine.

I bought a full gallon of this color with out sampling it.  I'm a little scared.

So I am trying to put all of the pieces together in this room I have dubbed the "Makeup Lounge".  I plan to use Razzle Dazzle only on one wall as the focal point and use black and white accents through out the room.  I am spending a lot of time and lack of sleep trying to make sure that everything goes together, but there are a lot of pieces including the finishes on a makeup table, a daybed for guests, side tables, and the metal tones on the mirror and chandelier.  It's a lot to put together!

Another one of my problems is that I have so many unfinished projects around the house right now.  First off I still haven't changed the lights in the hallway after our board and batten project.  I still haven't worked on my daughter's room...mainly because I can't actually walk in there with out stepping on something, but also there is paint samples on all the walls in the bathroom and unfinished (dreaded) popcorn ceiling patch to do in the kitchen.  I have at least 3 spray paint projects sitting in the garage waiting to be done, and here I go onto another project as well as launching a cosmetics line.

...and as my sister recently pointed out, I always have some kind of project going on, and I totally have A.D.D.  I totally know she is right, so I can't even argue.

Come back Friday to see my "Makeup Lounge" inspiration board I made at www.olioboard.com.

Thrift Store & Garage Sale Lovin'

First I want to show you a set of lamps that I purchased from the thrift store the other day.  I picked them up and put them back a few times before remembering something, that if you ever see a set of vintage lamps that work, you should always buy them.  Not sure if I actually heard this somewhere or if I just made it up in my head!!  But I thought the set had enough potential that I couldn't leave them behind.

What would you have done, is this something that you would have jumped on or left behind?
I still can't decide if they are really cool or just really ugly.

I found these more updated shades at Target.  I like how they mimic the lines on the decorative balls.

So what do you think?  Should I spray paint the brass-y to a creamy white or leave them alone?

This morning I was so excited to have a garage sale right across the street from my house.  My husband usually works on Saturdays and the kids like to sleep in so I never get to go to garage sales.  I snuck over there early and scored some good deals.

First the practical.  I have been meaning to pick up one of these yellow guys for awhile since the kids like to ride and play in the street.  It has never been used.  The booster seat was only $5 and we can always use one of those.

Lanterns and a wreath.

A large woven bowl that I plan to display on a wall.

A large, wood console table.  My neighbor said it came from a kitchen store and it is exactly what I have been looking for to display my large platters and bowls that take up too much space in the kitchen cabinets.  The bottom is perfect for large baskets to keep linens.  I paid $2 for it.

My only problem with it is that I have a feeling that it has been left outside for awhile and it is damp and molded.  Not sure what to do to remove the black from the finish.  I was thinking a bleach mixture and Brillo pad.  Any ideas?

And last, I scored this great bench.  It is heavy enough that I could not pick it up by myself.  This is the perfect way to wait for the bus when school starts.  My idea is to put it at the corner of our property and plant a Crepe Myrtle tree to provide some shade.  Two planters on each side with some Vinca flowers would look too cute too!

All in all I spent $16.50 at the garage sale and I feel like I scored some great deals.  Now I want to go every weekend, I need to get these kids of mine to wake up earlier... they can eat breakfast in the car, right?!?!

Inspiration Friday No.17

Happy Inspiration Friday!!
...What?!  It's Saturday you say!!!.  Yeah well, yesterday I slept until 9:30 a.m. and spent the day at the pool with my kids, and then went to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner.  What can I say, it's SUMMER!!!!  So a little late but here it is...

What a great lounging spot!!

I've been thinking about pools a lot lately.  Not sure we want the investment of an inground, but an above ground with a deck would be awesome!!

How cool are these stepping stones?  Love them.
I've also seen a wall done like this that looked really cool.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  I just hit up the garage sale across the street and got some good deals to show you... heading back over for more!!!

Coffee Table Switcheroo

Ever since I saw this coffee table in the living room from Young House Love's first house,
I have been on the look out for one similar.

If you remember this is what our family room looked like a few months ago after I found
this wicker trunk on Craigslist.

...and the family room after scoring a similar glass table from Craigslist last week for $30.

I really like how the glass reflects the light in the room and I can display things on both the top and bottom.  It is more upkeep but I think it is totally worth it.

I did finally wash three of the slipcovers on the seat cushions.  I did not use bleach or Oxi Clean but I was really disappointed by how they turned out with regular detergent.  They all came out with yellow streak marks.  I have a front loading washing machine, so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the way they washed.  I plan to try again with Oxi Clean next time and hope they come out better.

I have friends and family tell me all the time that they can never find anything on Craigslist and I just say to them that you have to look all the time.  I down loaded the Craigslist app on my iPhone and it has made finding items so much easier.  Plus, I get to save my favorites so I can keep track of what I love.  I have posted two pictures of items that are listed on my local Craigslist right now.

If you are looking for an easy DIY project, these matching dining chairs would be a breeze with some spray paint and new fabric.

...and if you are not the DIY type, this dresser is already beautifully done.

Our summer vacation started yesterday and I am really hoping to keep my sanity this summer.  Two children who want to be kept busy will be a tough job!!

Inspiration Friday No.16 ~ Summer Color

Hi everyone!!  Today I am posting some of my Pinterest picks,
you can Follow Me if you would like to see some more!!

You will see a reoccurring theme in each picture... it's COLOR.
Nothing say summertime like bold and pretty colors!  I love this picture below, the fabric is gorgeous!!!
I wish I was brave enough to recover a chair like this but piping scares me to death.

This would make a happy mudroom to come home to.

...and laundry wouldn't be half bad in this room.

I keep meaning to create an herb garden, this is a cute way to
display and reuse something you already have.

A happy backyard space.  I love the different color pots.

Another way to display an herb garden.

Watermelon lime frosty, yes please!!!

I saw this and think that I might have to make me a sign for the kitchen...
because it all starts with coffee!!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!  We have a full weekend of celebrating my Grandmother's life, a neighborhood party and family bay day on Sunday.

Let's get this summer started!!!
